A Magical Wedding

Krystle Tabujara and Tim Kiefer are an eclectic couple, friends, and customers of Leanna Lin's Wonderland! They recently had a magical wedding, done their way. The location was at the iconic Madonna Inn and very intimate with a few family members. Krystle and Tim stopped by the shop for our Nathan Jurevicius signing (which is how I met them) and found some perfect things to accessorize their fabulous wedding. They have great style and I'm excited to share this with you!

Q: You both are super imaginative! Tell me a little about your creative background and what you're doing currently!
.
A (Krys): Most of my adult life has been shaped by comics. I worked for the Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF) and, Toronto cultural institution, the Beguiling Books and Art for 6 years. I'm also a visual artist and have exhibited all over the world but I made a career change before leaving Toronto and started working in wardrobe for film.
.
A (Tim): I'm one of the composers for Adventure Time. There's two of us. We've been doing it since the show started. I have always been a devoted music nerd. As a DJ, it's a passion of mine to hunt for weird, electronic beats.

Q: What was your inspiration for the theme of your wedding?
.
A (Krys): It was very short notice so there was no conscious decision on 'theme'. I came to LA in July with a return ticket set for two weeks after I arrived. We had been having a long distance relationship up until then and Tim was standing at the bottom of the escalator at LAX with a sign that said "Will you marry me?". It was spontaneous and romantic and why wait? So, we decided to get married at the Madonna Inn shortly thereafter because we've both always wanted to spend the night and never have. It's so extra and epic and gold. That's probably how I would describe how I dress on most days, so perhaps the theme was Madonna Inn, but just evoking the feeling of the place in 5 outfits or more.
.
A (Tim): Ending up at the Madonna Inn was a culmination of road tripping around California my entire life. Our mutual love for kitsch and the aesthetics of the Madonna Inn set the stage for whimsical wardrobe and accessories antics. My outfits for the wedding spanned my favourite fashion choices throughout my adult life which I could describe as a combination of art project, floral formal and cosmic space collaboration with Krys.

Q: What artist (musician or designer included) inspires you the most?
.
A (Krys): Lynda Barry is a Filipino American cartoonist, and my hero, who once told me, "You're an artist. You make art. You're doing it. Just keep doing it!" I wouldn't be doing what I do today without that brash kind of validation. I come from a pretty conservative Filipino Canadian background where creativity is encouraged but maybe not easily quantifiable as a career. So, to see a fellow Pinxy out there with a career based on her creativity put the fire in my pants to just do what makes me happiest and I'm really proud of the work I've done thus far as a result!
.
A (Tim): I go for the iconoclast type of musician. For example; Raymond Scott or Apex Twin.

Q: What is your favorite place to visit or do in the LA area? What about your hometown, Toronto?
.
A (Krys): I started practicing magic in the past year. Visiting the Magic Castle is probably my absolute favourite thing to do in LA. I'm an active member of the Ballroom community and ballroom has evolved greatly from what people know of it from the documentary Paris is Burning!. Here in LA the ballroom community is very small. The scene in Toronto is not quite as big or have as much history as New York but I never have a bad night judging, walking or just taking in a ball or a kiki with my ballroom fam
.
A (Tim): LA: Mount Baldy! TO: My fondest memories of Toronto would have to be moseying around Dundas West and Parkdale. That sums up my first experience of Toronto when I fell in love with Krys.
