Happy LGBTQ+ Pride Month everybody!
This June, we are looking back to our roots. For the past almost eleven years, we have celebrated LGBTQ+ Pride with our Eagle Rock community and we love that every year you continue to support and celebrate with us! Just as we know our beginnings here at Leanna Lin's, Pride has it's very own roots that make up what it is all about.
The history of Pride is one of protest, going all the way back to June 28, 1969 starting with the Stonewall Riots, which were instigated by a police raid at the Stonewall Inn, a popular Greenwich Village Gay Bar. As police arrested patrons, neighbors and tourists began to gather to see what was going on. According to The Harvard Gazette, at this time "a lesbian who was fighting attempts to haul her into a squad car cried out, 'Why don’t you guys do something!'". It was then that people began to fight back, throwing bricks and bottles, turning the violence back on the police. This triggered a large riot and protests which would last for days. This brave demonstration would be felt all over the world and get the ball rolling on more open and public change for the LGBTQ+ community.

Here at Leanna Lin's we try our best to make our shop a safe space for our LGBTQ+ customers and staff. We are always learning and growing, which means if we ever get something wrong, such as pronouns or anything else, please let us know! We are more than happy to accommodate to make everyone feel safe and welcome.
If you are looking to donate or get involved with some LGBTQ+ organizations this Pride month, we've made a list of a few that we love and support! Please check out Gender Justice LA, API Equality LA, The Trevor Project, and The Marsha P. Johnson Institute.
